VINTAGE DRAVID SCORES CENTURY

Rahul (wall) Dravid scored a century on second day of Mohali Test against England.

This is one of his most patient knock. Rahul Dravid had not scored well in last eight innings and the critics were after his scalp. Now Dravid has silenced his critics by scoring this century.

Sourav Ganguly announces retirement
October 8, 2008, 2:26 pm

In a dramatic way, the Bengal Tiger announced his retirement from first class cricket at the end of this 4 test series in the press conference held in Bangalore on 7th Oct.2008. The axe was always hanging on him since a long time due to his non-performance. Of course he also had rubbed some people in the wrong side during his heydays. He never allowed Rahul Dravid to play his natural game and he was forced to do wicket-keeping against his will. A team man to the core, Rahul never expressed his displeasure in public.

Moreover, Ganguly also shuffled batting order which, at many times unsettle scoring pattern and tempo. . Of course, he is one of the most successful Indian cricket captain but his actions in some events and circumstances leaves a very bad taste, like his removing his shirt in Lords.

I hope and trust he will work for the betterment of Indian cricket in general and West Bengal cricket in particular. I wish him all the best..

T M Krishna – an enthralling concert

Venue - Gayana Sanaja, Bangalore Date July 10, 2008

Accompaniments: HK Venkataram, – Violin, Shrimushnam V Raja Rao, – Mruidanga, Giridhar Udupa – Ghata

Organisers – Percussive Arts Centre, Bangalore

This is one of the best concerts I have recently attended.

He started with Bhairavi  It was very good. Then he sang Saranga After this he sang Shree. I know very few artists sing Shree raga  with detailed alapane. But TMK did an elaborate alapane. Yet I was disappointed as he did not do neraval and detailed swaraprastara for this kriti of Shree Dikshitar. After this he took up Saveri  (Shree Shyama Shastri’s composition) which was superb. It is  superlative with a detailed alapane, neraval, swaraprastara and tani avartana. Its one of the best Saveri I heard recently. It was surprising that only four ragas were sung for over two hours. By 09:15 I had to leave when he started Tillana. The accompaniment was really good.

Overall, the concert was simply superb. It was a great treat.

Today is Dr. DVG’s 121st birthday.  Dr. DVG’s books have inspired and influenced a lot in my life.

His is a multifaceted personality.  He is known for his integrity.  Even though he had good contacts like Sir M Visvesvaraya, Diwan Mirza Ismail etc., he never misued his privilege for his personal benefit.

He is one of the doyens of kannada literature.  His books  Mankuthimmana Kagga and Maraluminiyana Kaggas are known for their insight.  A lot of people daily study these verses as a ritual as they give solace to the mind.

His  other books such as Jnapakachitrashale in 8 volumes narrate the life of people over a period of nearly sixty years in erstwhile Mysore state during 1900s
