March 17th is birthday of Dr. DVG, one of the doyens of Kannada literature and a great philosopher. He lived for his principles.
He was a man of clear conscience and conviction. He never misused his privileges for his personal use. He has written Jnapaka Chitrashale, an anecdote of erstwhile Mysore region, (during the pre-independence) which helps to know the lifestyle and history of that period. The book on Mysore divans is one of the most authentic and realistic political commentary of that period. Most importantly, Dr. DVG had met or interacted with most of the Divans and his writings are unbiased.
He had written Mankuthimmana Kagga, a book of 4 line verses gives insight to life. This is his one of the most famous books.
Samaja Sevakara Samithi, (http://www.sssglobal.org/) Bangalore have been organising a programme on 17th March every year to commemorate the birth day of Dr. DVG. This year too they have organised a programme at ADA Rangamandira, JC Road, Bangalore on 17th March 2009 at 5 PM

What happened in Mangalore pub must be condemned and the culprits should be booked. Is media should not be held responsible for knowing about the crime in advance and they should have informed the police to prevent this crime, but it has failed miserably. It is surprising that TV channels were there in time and it appears that whole show is stage-managed for media. This act could have been prevented had the media acted responsibly and informed the police.
Equally surprising is an incident of nuns were attacked in Kerala but it does not get mentioned. For details visit this http://www.haindavakeralam.com/HKPage.aspx?PageID=8105&SKIN=B The media wants freedom of expression and it is curbing freedom of bloggers like Chyetanya Kunte by threats and intimidation (read a great post on this at http://www.sandeepweb.com/2009/01/29/barkha-dutt-and-ndtv-the-joke-is-on-you/#more-1248) The media behaved similarly in Tasima Nasreen’s incident too. Hats off to their so-called unbiased reporting.

Why did he resign now, without even waiting for a board meeting. When he says, he is ready for any consequences, he could have waited. It appears something fishy in his letter given to stock exchanges and to board members. The unanswered question now is where is the money now, has he siphoned off them to his Maytas, and to get away with this money he made statements like the accounts were inflated. I hope regulatory authorities will do a thorough check now. Something more interesting is CM of Andhra Pradesh was telling yesterday that Hyderabad Metro project was awarded to Maytas, which is a different company.
Mr. Raju was not a fool to do this unless he has some good support from politically powerful people. He has chosen his time correctly to fabricate the books and siphon off the funds before announcing his resignation. What is more surprising is that he has passed copy of this letter to other board members. If Mr. Raju is so conscious, he could have had a tele-conference of his board before announcing his resignation. Mr. Raju wanted to have an impact on other board members and wanted to avoid any reaction from his board in public.
Now Mr. Raju’s family can enjoy the booty.

Rahul (wall) Dravid scored a century on second day of Mohali Test against England.
This is one of his most patient knock. Rahul Dravid had not scored well in last eight innings and the critics were after his scalp. Now Dravid has silenced his critics by scoring this century.

In a dramatic way, the Bengal Tiger announced his retirement from first class cricket at the end of this 4 test series in the press conference held in Bangalore on 7th Oct.2008. The axe was always hanging on him since a long time due to his non-performance. Of course he also had rubbed some people in the wrong side during his heydays. He never allowed Rahul Dravid to play his natural game and he was forced to do wicket-keeping against his will. A team man to the core, Rahul never expressed his displeasure in public.
Moreover, Ganguly also shuffled batting order which, at many times unsettle scoring pattern and tempo. . Of course, he is one of the most successful Indian cricket captain but his actions in some events and circumstances leaves a very bad taste, like his removing his shirt in Lords.
I hope and trust he will work for the betterment of Indian cricket in general and West Bengal cricket in particular. I wish him all the best..
